DNEL

InnovaDocs SDS teamUpdated: 6 November 2026

Definition: The DNEL (derived no-effect level) is the level of exposure to a substance above which humans should not be exposed, derived in the REACH chemical safety assessment.

DNELs are given per population (workers, consumers), route (inhalation, dermal, oral) and duration (short or long term). They come from the registration dossier.

They belong in SDS section 8.1 together with PNECs and occupational exposure limits.

A DNEL is not a legal limit but a derived reference value; it appears in SDS Section 8.1 when the chemical safety report contains it.
