CLP Regulation

InnovaDocs SDS teamUpdated: 6 November 2026

Definition: CLP is Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on the Classification, Labelling and Packaging of substances and mixtures, the EU implementation of the UN GHS.

CLP defines the hazard classes (physical, health, environmental), the criteria for classifying substances and mixtures, and the label elements: pictograms, signal word, H and P statements.

The classification you derive under CLP appears in SDS section 2 and drives sections 8, 11, 12, 14 and 15. Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707 added new hazard classes such as endocrine disruption, PBT/vPvB and PMT/vPvM.

Recent changes: the CLP revision Regulation (EU) 2024/2865 is being applied in stages. The new hazard classes of Delegated Regulation (EU) 2023/707 apply to new substances from 1 May 2025, existing substances by 1 November 2026, new mixtures from 1 May 2026 and existing mixtures by 1 May 2028. Classification also feeds SDS Sections 3 and 16.
