CLP classification and labelling

GHS

InnovaDocs SDS teamUpdated: 6 November 2026

Definition: GHS is the United Nations Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, the worldwide model that CLP implements in the EU.

GHS is a recommendation, not a law. Each country adopts the parts it chooses, so classifications and SDS formats still differ between the EU, the US, China or Turkey.

The nine GHS pictograms (GHS01 to GHS09) and the 16-section SDS structure come from GHS.
