Competent person

InnovaDocs SDS teamUpdated: 6 November 2026

Definition: REACH Annex II requires that a safety data sheet is prepared by a competent person who has appropriate training and knowledge of the hazards and the legal requirements.

The law does not define a diploma. The supplier decides who is competent and should be able to show training records and refresher courses.

Software can do the calculations and wording, but a competent person should review and release the final SDS.

REACH Annex II, point 0.2.3 requires the supplier to ensure that competent persons receive appropriate training, including refresher training.
