Definition: A safety data sheet (SDS, formerly MSDS) is the 16-section document defined in REACH Annex II that tells professional users how to handle a hazardous substance or mixture safely.
The SDS covers identification, hazards, composition, first aid, firefighting, accidental release, storage, exposure controls, properties, stability, toxicology, ecology, disposal, transport, regulations and other information.
The supplier placing the product on the market is responsible for its content and must keep it up to date. The older term MSDS (material safety data sheet) is no longer used in EU law.
